All security measures are also in place, CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly claimed.

While the class 10th examinations will be conducted from March 1 to 27, the Class 12 examinations will be held from March 1 to April 2.

The examinations will be conducted across 5,018 centres of which 375 have been marked as sensitive and will have additional security measures. The National Capital Territory alone will have 1,109 centres.

The board, this year, is introducing redesigned High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) question paper for both the standards. Based on the national curriculum framework2005, the new design includes about 10 per cent of very short answer questions and about 20 per cent of questions to assess HOTS.

Advising students to stay calm, Ganguly said the new pattern will test understanding of information and the focus will be on measuring students abilities to reason, justify and evaluate information.

Rapist fled through unlocked door at jail

A twice-convicted rapist facing life in prison remained at large Thursday after dashing through an unlocked door at the Jim Hogg County Sheriff's Office late Tuesday night.

Abel Morin, 24, of San Diego, Texas, who was sentenced to five concurrent life terms in prison on Monday, has not been spotted since he escaped shortly before midnight in Hebbronville while being moved between cells.

Morin was being held in Hebbronville as part of a problem prisoner exchange agreement between Jim Hogg and Duval counties. He escaped hours after being returned to Hebbronville by Duval County deputies.

"My officers took him and placed him in the holding cell in Jim Hogg. They removed the handcuffs, belly chain and shackles, and left him in the holding cell," said Bruno Valdez, chief deputy in Duval County.

Pilot Seniority Big Issue in Mergers

Tempe-based US Airways has become the latest cautionary tale about airline mergers.

Though it revived a moribund former US Airways and helped the company amass more than $3 billion in cash, the carrier's 2005 combination has forced its pilots into what many consider an impossible position.

To airline pilots, seniority is just as important as pay. Their place in the pecking order determines what kind of planes they can fly, what routes they're assigned, whether they can be home for the holidays.

"It means everything," said Arnie Gentile, a US Airways pilot and former union representative.

Pilots from the former US Airways aren't likely to give up their seniority without a fight, Gentile said. They haven't forgotten the billions of dollars they gave over the years in pay and pension cuts to keep the former US Airways afloat.

Georgia: Thousands suffering in silence: Violence against women in the ...

For reasons of personal safety the names of all women mentioned in this report who have experienced violence in the family have been changed and any case details that may make them identifiable have been altered. The only exception is the case of a woman whose husband has died. Including due to lack of available safe and affordable housing and access to independent means to support themselves, several women whose cases are mentioned in the report continue to live with their violent partner and risk reprisals if they are identified. The case examples included in this document were either obtained through interviews conducted by Amnesty International during a fact-finding visit to Georgia in April 2006 or provided by the following Georgian NGOs: Advice Centre for Women "Sakhli"(7), Anti-Violence Network of Georgia, the Centre for Protection of Constitutional Rights, the Georgian Young Lawyers Association, and Saphari(8).
